Azerbaijan's economy generated an estimated GDP of approximately US$74.3 billion in 2024, with fossil fuels constituting around 90% of total exports. The Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oilfield complex in the Caspian Sea, operated by a consortium led by bp (30.37% interest) and SOCAR (25% interest), is the primary hydrocarbon asset; in April 2024 the seventh ACG production platform — Azeri Central East (ACE) — delivered first oil, producing approximately 26,000 barrels per day from its initial three wells. The State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) held assets of approximately AZN 95 billion (US$56 billion) as of 1 January 2024 and re-invests surpluses in infrastructure and non-oil economic diversification — the source of most branded-goods packaging demand. Two agricultural export categories represent the clearest design opportunities: pomegranate products (Azerbaijan exported 2,802 tonnes of fresh pomegranates in January–February 2024 alone, valued at approximately US$2.511 million; major exporters include Gilan Holding, Azersun Holding, AzNar, and AzGranata) and wine (approximately 10 licensed wineries, led by Vinagro, primarily targeting Russian and European export markets). Azerbaijan is also leveraging its position on the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route) linking China and the EU by containerised rail, making Baku a logistics and re-export hub with growing B2B industrial packaging activity.
