The Central Organization for Standards and Quality Control (COSQC), operating under the Ministry of Planning, is the primary national standards body responsible for enforcing product standards for imported goods; it provides conformity assessment and acts as advisor on quality control for government ministries. Arabic and English are both required on product labels as of May 2024. Dates of manufacture and expiry must be embossed or printed on the packaging of canned and preserved food items. Halal certification from a recognised body is required for all applicable food and cosmetic products. Pharmaceutical products require approval from the Ministry of Health's Kimadia (State Company for Drug, Medical Appliances and Medical Supplies of Iraq) for government procurement channels; private-sector imports follow MOH import approval processes. Standard Specifications System No. 9 (September 2025, in force March 2026) mandates a Certificate of Conformity for all products before they may enter trade.
