Supplement packaging design is the specialised creation of labels, bottles, pouches, tubs, and boxes for dietary supplements — vitamins, minerals, protein powders, probiotics, nootropics, and herbal products. In the USA, supplements are regulated under DSHEA (Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994) by the FDA, and all supplement labels must include a Supplement Facts panel listing serving size, servings per container, and declared nutrients with percent daily values. Structure/function claims (e.g. 'supports immune health') require a specific FDA disclaimer: 'This statement has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration...' Our supplement packaging design ensures all mandatory elements are present, correctly formatted, and compliant before production.
The Supplement Facts panel is the legal centrepiece of every supplement label. We design Supplement Facts to FDA 21 CFR Part 101.36 specifications: correct column structure, required typeface minimums (6pt minimum for most text), percent daily value declarations, footnotes for nutrients without established DVs, and 'other ingredients' list in descending order by predominance. Structure/function claim disclaimers are formatted in the correct FDA-mandated border box. For products with proprietary blends, we correctly declare the blend total weight while maintaining ingredient sequence.
We design packaging for the full supplement category: capsule bottles (HDPE and PET with tamper-evident seals), stand-up pouches for protein powders (with degassing valve and zip closure), powder tubs (HDPE with child-resistant lids), stick packs and sachets, gummy pouches, liquid supplement bottles, blister packs for individual capsule doses, and subscription box packaging. Each format requires different die-cut specifications and artwork setup. For powder pouches, we ensure the nutrition panel is positioned on the back panel within readable distance from the zip closure.
Supplement regulations vary significantly by country. For Canada, we include Natural Product Number (NPN) and Recommended Dose per Health Canada requirements. For the UK, we follow MHRA guidance and UK food supplement regulations post-Brexit. For Australia, we apply TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) permitted indications and ARTG registration requirements. For the EU, we follow EFSA authorised health claims and Directive 2002/46/EC. We design market-specific label versions and can produce master templates with variable text regions to manage multi-market compliance efficiently.
Supplement consumers conduct more research than almost any other product category before buying. Packaging must communicate trust through design. We use third-party certification marks (NSF Certified for Sport, Informed Sport, USP Verified, Non-GMO Project, USDA Organic) correctly according to each certifier's trademark guidelines. QR codes linking to Certificates of Analysis (COAs) are sized to GS1 scan standards. 'Made in USA' and similar origin claims follow FTC guidance. Each of these elements is a trust signal that increases purchase confidence.
Premium supplement brands are increasingly using packaging finishes previously associated with luxury goods: soft-touch matte laminate gives labels and boxes a premium tactile feel; spot UV on logo elements adds contrast; hot foil on product names creates perceived value. We specify and design for these finishes, delivering separated artwork files where each finish process has its own layer — base colour, foil mask, UV mask — so your printer can produce the finish correctly.
For supplement brands selling on Amazon, packaging design and Amazon listing image design work together. Amazon requires main images on a pure white background (RGB 255/255/255) with the product filling at least 85% of the frame. Infographic images showing key ingredients, benefit callouts, and Supplement Facts panels drive conversion. We design both the physical packaging and the full Amazon listing image set (main, infographic, lifestyle, comparison) in a coordinated workflow, ensuring brand consistency across physical and digital channels.
Complete project deliverable: print-ready PDF with Pantone and CMYK specifications, editable Adobe Illustrator source file, 3D photorealistic renders, barcode EPS, and flat PNG preview. The Supplement Facts panel is delivered as both embedded artwork and a separate AI file for future regulatory updates. For multi-SKU ranges (e.g. 5 flavours), we deliver a master template with variable regions clearly marked so future SKU additions maintain regulatory and design consistency.
