UX Research and Discovery
UI/UX projects begin with discovery: user interviews, heuristic evaluation of the existing product (if any), competitor UX audit, and definition of user personas and journey maps. We use Nielsen's 10 Usability Heuristics and WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines as evaluative frameworks. Deliverables include a research synthesis report, affinity maps, and a prioritised list of design opportunities.

Information Architecture and Wireframing
Information architecture (IA) defines how content is organised, labelled, and navigated. We produce a site map or feature map, followed by low-fidelity wireframes (greyscale, no branding) for key user flows. Wireframes are created in Figma and tested with stakeholders before any visual design begins, preventing expensive rework when structural changes are still cheap to make.

Visual Design System
UI design is built on a design system: a shared library of reusable components (buttons, forms, cards, modals, navigation) with defined states (default, hover, active, disabled, error). Figma's component and variant system enables the entire product UI to be maintained from a single master library. Colour tokens and typography scales are defined as Figma Variables for seamless handoff to development.

Accessibility and Inclusive Design
We design to WCAG 2.1 AA as standard. Key considerations: colour contrast (4.5:1 for body text), focus states on all interactive elements, ARIA-labelled components, logical tab order, touch target sizes (minimum 44x44px per Apple HIG), and motion reduction for users with vestibular disorders. Accessibility is tested with screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA) before handoff.

Prototyping and Usability Testing
Interactive prototypes in Figma simulate the full user flow, including tap, swipe, scroll, and modal interactions, without writing a line of code. We conduct moderated usability testing sessions (5-8 participants per round) and unmoderated remote testing using Maze or UserTesting.com. Findings are documented in a usability report with actionable design recommendations.

Developer Handoff and Design Tokens
Development-ready Figma files include: auto-layout components with correct padding and spacing tokens, fully annotated flows, redline specifications for spacing and typography, an asset export library (SVG icons, rasterised images at 1x, 2x, 3x), and a component states guide. We support Storybook documentation and can export design tokens as JSON for use with Tailwind CSS or CSS custom properties.
